In 2005, BIG JUMP (www.bigjum.org) started a movement to appreciate local rivers and recognize their significance through dedicating a day of activities to remember, respect and appreciate rivers, such as jumping into them and enjoying them. The activity day is carried out annually on global scale, and has been broadening and enlarging ever since.
FON registered with BIG JUMP as local participant and organizer.
On 9 July 2017, we celebrated healthy clean beautiful rivers of Lebanon, on the same day as millions celebrated around the globe. We walked by the river side under the shade of water loving trees to reach the upper ponds and dipped in the waters of Ayoun el Samak, Dannieh paying respect and honor.
This was the first time that Lebanon joined this movement, our participation featured on BIG JUMP website in a welcome note and the posting of our activity (http://www.bigjump.org/2017/07/welcome-libanon-the-first-big-jump-in-lebanon-with-a-4-h-walk/
FON will every year continue to present our respect to our rivers, voicing their importance and advocating the preservation of these habitats for biodiversity protection from pollution and degradation. We are always planning a bigger and far-reaching participation with communities and nature lovers.
