The Friends of Nature is an active member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the global umbrella for developing strategies for nature conservation.

Friends of Nature assists at engendering local and global conservation of nature, natural resources and assets employing a variety of tools:

  • awareness
  • education
  • law development and implementation
  • governance
  • research and publication
  • capacity building of ngos, local communities, authorities
  • grassroot conservation
  • creation of nature reserves

Friends of Nature has contributed to the World Parks Congress, Sydney 2015 (a congress that takes place every 10 years) through exposing our pioneering project on Orchid Conservation.

Friends of Nature has contributed to the World Conservation Congress, Hawaii 2016 through presenting 2 topics:

  1. conflict resolution in nature conservation : based on our history in resolving conflicts with different stakeholder groups to establish nature reserves, which carries not only a local initiative and fruitful experience but also a lesson to learn from on global perspective. FON has dealt with the most difficult, so to say, segments of society at fostering conservation, meaning fishermen, herdsmen, municipalities and politicians, and we stamped the precedence and the successful partnership.
  2. Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve : the significance of the ecosystem of this reserve at the level of the Mediterranean and beyond, and a module for nature conservation to be emulated and repeated.

Friends of Nature participates in a number of species specialist commissions for the better understanding of biodiversity, ecosystems and conservation.
